Top tips
  1. Get a good carving set

Having the right tools helps when creating your masterpiece! So make sure you get the right carving equipment with safety in mind for those little creative hands.

  2. Pick your pumpkin wisely!

Finding the perfect pumpkin is key to the success of your carve. There are so many out there – large or small, perfectly round or a little squished! We suggest picking one with a smooth surface for smooth carving.

  3. Have a bowl ready for the insides

We all know pumpkin carving can get a little messy, especially with all those little artists around! If you want to be able to light those pumpkins up – you’ll need to clean the inside of your pumpkin. It makes carving so much easier!

  4. Have wipes at the ready!

Pumpkin carving with the kids can get messy, so have your wipes and bags ready to clean up any mess as you go along.

  5. Keep your pumpkin looking fresh!

To keep your pumpkin looking fresh for Halloween – our top tip is to soak it in a cold bath. Give your pumpkin a soak, then rub the pumpkin with a towel to dry it as soon as you’ve taken it out of the bath, and your carving should stay fresher for longer.

  6. Have a spray bottle of water handy

To help your pumpkin keep it’s structure, have a spray bottle handy when carving. Once you start carving, the pumpkin loses water, and this can cause it to shrink or collapse. So give it a little spritz and keep the moisture levels up.

  7. Light it up!

Finish your design by lighting up your pumpkin with LED lights instead of real tealights- which are both child and caravan friendly! For an extra special glow, try using a flashing light (such as a bike light) to make your designs come to life.

  8. Eco-friendly ways to dispose of your pumpkin

When Halloween is over and it’s time to get rid of your pumpkins – there are some eco-friendly ways you can do this. Local wildlife such as deer and squirrels love to eat pumpkin! Make sure you cut it into small chunks and scatter somewhere in woodland or hedgerows, away from your holiday home.
