May is National Walking Month, a fantastic initiative led by Living Streets UK, that encourages people to explore the outdoors, improve their health and wellbeing, and reduce their impact on the environment. Whether you’re an experienced walker or just starting out, there’s never been a better time to lace up your shoes and head out for a stroll. All our holiday parks are situated in stunning locations, with miles upon miles of walking trails within easy reach.
If you’re in need some inspiration – here’s some of our favourite places to walk near our parks.
Walk the Wales Coast Path
Our parks at Dinlle, Morfa Lodge, The Beach and Craiglwyd Hall are situated pretty much on the Wales Coast Path! Even if you just walk a short section, you’ll find spectacular views, historic points of interest, and an abundance of wildlife. You are guaranteed to feel the benefits of the fresh sea breeze on both your body and mind!
Wander across the Yorkshire Dales
If you’re staying at Gallaber Park, then you’ll be spoilt for choice for amazing walks nearby. Gallaber Park is conveniently located right on the doorstep to the Yorkshire Dales, so if you’re a walking enthusiast – it’s an ideal spot to own a holiday home or enjoy a short break.
If you’re looking for a gentle route to get you started, perhaps try walking a section of the Pennine Bridleway, from Long Preston to Settle. This famous National Trail follows old packhorse and drovers routes, some dating back to medieval times, which criss-cross the moorlands all the way from Derbyshire to Cumbria. The route crosses the Yorkshire Dales and the section from Long Preston to Settle is well worth exploring. If you want to extend the route slightly, why not incorporate the magnificent Scaleber Force waterfall.
Explore Gwydir Forest Park
Maenan Abbey Caravan Park is located right on the doorstep of Gwydir Forest Park. A large area of woodland that covers almost 30sq miles and surrounds the village of Betws y Coed.
Gwydir Forest is a fantastic place to explore on foot – the trails are waymarked and well maintained, plus there is lots to discover! Spectacular waterfalls, beautiful lakes and the remains of industrial architecture are hidden within the forest. It’s a peaceful place and the forest environment has many benefits for your health and wellbeing.
Just a short drive from Maenan Abbey, you’ll find Llyn Crafnant is our favourite walk – it’s a level circular route, roughly 5km long, with a lovely café that serves incredible homemade cakes and has a stunning view across the lake.
